Lunch at Anura Wine Estate

The wind is starting to blow in – rumor has it a cold front is on its way – but on the wine tour today we visited one of my favourite wine estate restaurants – The Lilly Pad at Anura Wine Estate in the Paarl region. It is a gem of a place, with fantastic food, good service and hosted by the friendly Jason.

As a tour group, we include lunch in our price and it is a amazing deal! We were seated at a secluded table on the balcony looking over the garden, and tucked into the home-made breads along with our lunch of “posh” Chicken Salad, Salmon Trout, Forrest Hill Chicken (named after the cheesery on the estate) and the most ginormous Anura Hamburger. This food not only looks good but tastes fantastic and truly lines the stomach to cope with the afternoon of wine tasting ahead.

Check out their website for their menu and I am sure there is something for everyone: Anura Restaurant

Whilst we were at Anura, the group enjoyed wine and cheese tasting, and a cellar tour. Some of their favourite wines were the 2007 ABSA Top 10 Pinotage, the Viognier and my personal favourite – the Maestro – the Cape Winelands answer to Châteauneuf-du-Pape. They have also recently released the new Pinot Noir which I am looking forward to tasting myself.

The staff are so friendly and we always feel so welcome that time flies while we sit in the sun, tasting award winning wines and nibbling on cheese and crackers – what a great way to spend some of the day!
